Pellet prices are rising before winter: keep production running
Pellet prices are rising across Europe ahead of the heating season. The German pellet institute DEPI reports that the benchmark price for ENplus A1 pellets was EUR 464.61 per tonne in October, up 2.3 percent on September and more than 23 percent since June. The institute points to reduced availability of by-products from sawmills. Prices are also rising in, among others, Austria, Switzerland and the Baltics. Bioenergy Insight and Fordaq reported the figures on 20 and 21 October 2026.
Why downtime costs more now
When raw material is scarcer and demand is high ahead of winter, there is little room for interruptions. An overfilled bin, a conveyor that keeps feeding a full silo, or spillage when loading a truck quickly leads to a stoppage and hours of cleaning.
Two simple protections
- A level switch that signals when the silo or bin has reached its maximum level, so the filling can be stopped.
- Overflow protection on the conveyor that stops the belt or screw before the material piles up.
Level switches for dry materials such as the Mobrey NV14P and NV10P are made for exactly this. Check and function-test them before the season starts: activate the sensor, confirm that the conveyor stops and that the alarm reaches the right person.
