Storing your grain over winter? Keep track of the fill level
Grain prices are moving in different directions. The FAO cereal price index rose by just over 5 percent in September, while a large US maize stock is pressing prices from above. There are also still no daily spot prices for physical grain in Sweden. The result is that more farmers store on the farm and wait. (Based on Lantbruksnytt, 17 October, 10 October and 11 October 2026, all in Swedish.)
Freedom with responsibility
Storing on the farm gives you freedom, but also responsibility. Common problems are moisture and heat in the batch, uneven filling, and overfilled silos when the screw or conveyor runs too long. A simple level switch at the maximum level gives a clear signal and can stop the filling automatically, without anyone having to climb the silo to look.
Checklist for winter storage
- Check temperature and moisture in the batch.
- Empty and clean before filling.
- Test the alarms and level switches.
- Review the discharge so that screws and conveyors do not run against a full receiver.
The mechanical Mobrey NV14P is mounted in the silo wall and is easy to retrofit in existing silos. See all level switches for silos and vessels. Not sure which one suits your plant? Describe the material and mounting position and we will answer: info@levelswitchsweden.com or +46 8 32 33 00.
