Dry Material Level Switch
Accurate level monitoring is crucial in industrial processes where dry bulk materials such as pellets, seeds, sand, or granules are handled. A well-established solution for this is the dry material level switch, like the membrane level guards from Elniva – robust, dependable, and designed for both high- and low-level alarms in silos, containers, conveyors, and processing systems.
What is a Dry Material Level Switch?
A dry material level switch is a sensor designed to detect when dry bulk material reaches a certain level in a container. It typically operates via a diaphragm mechanism where the pressure of the material actuates a membrane, which in turn activates a microswitch. These level switches are ideal for overflow protection or for alerting when material levels are low.
Elniva – Experts in Membrane Level Guards
The Elniva series from Level Switch Sweden AB offers diaphragm-based level guards engineered to handle all types of granular and powdery products, from light dust to heavy materials like grains, pellets, coal, or sand. These devices are designed for remote monitoring and can be mounted either inside or outside containers, depending on the application.
Function and Benefits
Elniva’s level guards work as mechanically actuated membrane switches.
When the material in the container presses against the rubber diaphragm, it deflects toward a pressure plate and actuates a microswitch. The diaphragm’s movement is limited to around 3–4 mm, ensuring the internal components are protected from excessive load.
The guards also feature pressure compensation. A sintered bronze filter cartridge equalizes air pressure changes behind the diaphragm. For installations inside containers, a compensation membrane replaces the filter to maintain internal stability. Note: These devices are not suitable for pressurized vessels.
