How Does a Level Switch Work?
A level switch from Elniva operates as a mechanical switch activated by a membrane. When the material reaches a certain level, it presses against the membrane, which in turn triggers a micro switch, signaling that a specific level has been reached. This simple yet effective system ensures reliable and robust level monitoring.
The Membrane: Core of the Activation Process
The membrane is the key component in the functionality of the level switch. It acts as a detector that responds to the pressure exerted by the material in the container or silo. As the material level rises and applies sufficient pressure on the membrane, a mechanical movement is initiated.
The Micro Switch: Signaling the Level Status
The mechanical movement of the membrane is transferred to a micro switch. These switches are highly sensitive to small movements and are designed to quickly toggle between “on” and “off” states. When the micro switch is activated, a signal is sent to indicate that the desired level has been reached. This signal can then be used to stop filling, start an emptying process, or alert the operator that action is required.
Overload Protection
Elniva’s level switches are designed with built-in overload protection. The membrane's movement is limited to approximately 3-4 mm to protect the internal components. This means that even if the pressure from the material in the container is high, the delicate parts of the device will not be damaged. This extends the lifespan of the level switch and ensures reliable operation over time.
Pressure Compensation
To ensure accuracy and reliability, Elniva’s level switches are equipped with a pressure compensation mechanism. This is particularly important as the pressure inside the container can vary due to factors such as temperature and material type. The mechanism compensates for these pressure changes, ensuring that the membrane responds correctly to variations in material levels.
By combining a sensitive membrane, a reliable micro switch, overload protection, and pressure compensation, Elniva’s level switches provide a robust and efficient solution for level control in a wide range of applications.
