Belt running against a full silo: three causes of conveyor stoppages
When handling dry materials such as grain, pellets, wood chips and feed, most stoppages occur in three places.
- A silo or bin becomes full while the filling continues.
- The discharge is blocked and the material builds up on the belt.
- The last conveyor in the chain stops while the others keep feeding.
What it costs
The consequences are familiar: spillage to clean up, damaged belts and drives, downtime and more dust in the air. Dust is a general risk factor in dry bulk handling, and one more reason to avoid spillage and overfilling.
Two protection principles
A level switch in the receiver gives a signal at the maximum level. Overflow protection at the conveyor outlet stops the motor when the material reaches the sensor. The sensor is connected to the motor control and should be function-tested before every season.
Level switches such as the Mobrey NV10P and NV14P are intended for dry materials and can be mounted in silos, bins and conveyors. See our overflow protection for conveyors. Not sure which one suits?
